CALL FOR SUBMISSION/NOUVELLES AFRICAINES/PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION /SEPTEMBER 2006/ PARIS, FRANCE

The most frequent image portrayed of Africa - when Africa is actually portrayed - is one of hunger, violence, disease and misery. These are the kinds of images shown on Western television, in advertising, and in magazines, and whose authors are rarely African. Nouvelles Africaines therefore felt it was time that African photographers have their say - that is, photographers who actually live in Africa and who experience Africa on a daily basis.
We hope that the images will speak for themselves, in an outdoor photographic exhibition for the general public, to be held in Paris’ 20th arrondissement in June 2006. The aim is also to promote the work of African photographers by providing an opportunity for wider visibility.
The Nouvelles Africaines project is curated by Afriphoto, Blowup and Confluences.
