Description image 233 x 175

M.E.C.C.A is an international cultural centre, providing space for independent and innovative art forms. M.E.C.C.A hosts a wide variety of activities in diverse fields. M.E.C.C.A encourages the merging and subsequent cross-pollinazation of these diverse forms of art as it has potential to enrich all participants.
M.E.C.C.A is a not-for-profit organization with no political affiliations. M.E.C.C.A emphasizes tolerance and acceptance without exceptions of any race, gender and denomination. M.E.C.C.A was founded with the support of the city of Terezàn and The Terezàn Foundation on July 8th 1999. M.E.C.C.A is partially funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the mayor of Terezàn, the local Historical Monuments Department and The Terezàn Foundation.
M.E.C.C.A’s initial idea, simply to provide studios to artists, has grown into the broader goals of forming an international arts colony, which aims to support individual artists and create a forum for international exchange. To achieve these goals, M.E.C.C.A is focusing on two programs. First, we provide space and facilities where people working in various fields of art will be able pursue their ideas in the company of their regional and international colleagues. M.E.C.C.A offers an artists’ residency program, multimedia and glass centres, and an auditorium, in addition to the residential apartments and personal studios. Artists from all over the world will be able to work and live in Terezàn while carrying out their projects. Second, we organize symposia for the exchange of opinions and formalized discussion. We arrange conferences, discussion forums, lectures and seminars, all of which will bear a spirit of tolerance and freedom of speech without any race discrimination. We are currently planning a conference of art critics from the West and East. Already Terezàn is becoming an international cultural centre providing an independent, free and creative environment. Terezàn is undergoing a revival from military town to a community with human features. M.E.C.C.A will contribute to its renewal by collaborating on art projects with the organizations and institutions of Terezàn, such as the Municipal Museum, the theatre and cinema, the exhibition hall and the local elementary school. M.E.C.C.A hopes to build an exciting creative community not only for visiting artists, but for the people of Terezàn as well.
