YOUR OWN SPACE: SEIZE IT. RUN IT. SUSTAIN IT
In October 2014 IETM Plenary Meeting will gather performing artists and professionals from all around the world to address the vital issues of today and shape the strategies of tomorrow. New sustainable models in the cultural sector, measuring the impact of artistic practices, reinforcement of connections with the audiences, mobility of artists – these and other topics will be at the heart of the discussions. The meeting will also offer a unique opportunity to get to know the Bulgarian contemporary arts scene.
The location of the meeting in Sofia - a place, where the transition is a constant process,
will encourage participants to create a space for exploring new possibilities and reflect
on change as a way of strengthening and advancement.
Invited by the French Institute of Bulgaria, Artfactories/Autre(s)pARTs will take part in the workshop Your own space: Seize it. Run it. Sustain it during the IETM Autumn Plenary Meeting Space for Change. Pierre Gonzales, artist of the ABI/ABO collective and permanent resident of the Friche Lamartine in Lyon (France), and Bahija Kibou, Coordinator of Artfactories/Autre(s)pARTs, will be there to share their experiences.
Your own space: Seize it. Run it. Sustain it
Although the broad independent arts scene in Sofia has been developing intensively in the last decade, there are still not enough spaces for rehearsing and presenting productions. Recognizing the increasing importance of the independent arts sector, and preparing the candidature of Sofia for European Capital of Culture 2019, the Sofia Municipality has been working with the independent scene for the past years, selecting and developing such spaces. Now Sofia has lost the bid for Cultural Capital, your support in sharing know-how, experiences and bringing collective brainpower will be even more valued.
Part 1 - 16 October, 2014 - 15:00 - 17:30
The first part of the working group offers you a guided tour to the potential future interdisciplinary arts spaces in Sofia: the heating plant of NDK, the industrial zone “Culture†, Undergara and TramDepo. During this 2-hour tour you will also discover other interesting sites in Sofia, and end up at the Central Bath; a newly created Museum in Sofia, and the location of the official opening of the meeting.

Part 2 - 17 October, 2014 - 10:00 - 12:00
The second part of the working group will be organized in the form of visual and verbal presentations of 5 to 7 models of already existing independent arts spaces in Central, Western and Eastern Europe. Presenters will share their mode of creation, working methods, business models, and experiences: the lessons learned by successes and failures. Participants will get ample space to drop thoughts and experiences and collect answers to their questions.

Part 3 - 18 October, 2014 - 10:30 - 12:00
At the final session we will bring together the discoveries of the city tour during the first part, and the shared knowledge and experience from the second. The aim is to open a creative brainstorming about the most appropriate spaces and most adequate and sustainable models, as well as at defining concrete next steps for future developments.
